Guanyin Indian Sandalwood Carving

$655.00

Hand-carved from Indian sandalwood, this statue of Buddhist ‘bodhisattva’* Guanyin symbolises mercy and love.

Guanyin is often referred to as the "most widely beloved Buddhist Divinity" with miraculous powers to assist all those who pray to her.

In Chinese mythology, Guanyin (觀音) is the goddess of mercy and considered to be the physical embodiment of compassion. She is an all-seeing, all-hearing being who is called upon by worshipers in times of uncertainty, despair, and fear.

Guan Yin is usually shown in a white flowing robe, white being the symbol of purity, and usually wearing regal Indian or Chinese necklaces. In the right hand is a water jar containing pure water, the divine nectar of life, compassion and wisdom; and in the left, a willow branch to sprinkle the divine nectar of life upon the devotees as to bless them with physical and spiritual peace. The willow branch is also a symbol of being able to bend (or adapt) but not break. The crown depicts full enlightenment.

*Within the Buddhist faith, a bodhisattva is someone who dedicates their life to the path of enlightenment.
